Book Review: Simms Taback’s Farm Animals

14 Feb

As the parent of an emergent talker I am always looking for ways to practice naming things, such as animals.  We love to sing “Old Macdonald” and imitate the sounds each animal makes.  This farm animal book, written by an award-winning author/illustrator, can be played as a guessing game with huge fold out pages that are sturdy enough to withstand little fingers.  Each piece of the fold out page contains a clue to the identity of the hidden animal.  Don’t forget to add in an “oink, oink” or a “moo, moo” to thoroughly enjoy the whole farm experience!

(On a side note, sadly, this well-loved author/illustrator passed away on December 25, 2011.  If you haven’t read anything by him yet, I highly recommend that you pick up one of his books and see for yourself what a wonderful legacy he has left us.  For more information about Simms Taback visit his website.)
