Book Review: Grandpa Green

Grandpa Green’s great-grandson wanders through an amazing garden filled with topiary trees that tell the story of his great-grandfather.  And it’s a good thing because Grandpa Green is “pretty old and he sometimes forgets things… but the important stuff, the garden remembers for him.”  This wonderful story about gardening as art, memory, and familial love is a Caldecott Honor Book.  View a very sweet book trailer on YouTube.

Book Review: Flower Garden

I am already dreaming of spring and thinking about what to plant in our garden beds this year and this is the perfect book to tide me over.  A young girl in the city shows readers that a garden can happen even when living in a high-rise apartment.  Simple rhyming verse follows this little one as she lovingly picks out flowers, brings them home, transplants them into a window box and presents them to her mom for her birthday.  What a wonderful spring book to get young children excited about planting seeds and creating gardens in whatever space they can find!
