Book Review: Dinosaur’s Binkit

I have easily become a huge fan of Sandra Boynton.  Her books are just plain fun and this one is no exception.    Little Lucy still adores books that she can interact with.  This board book is full of textures and flaps to lift to keep her busy and entertained.  It is time for Dinosaur to settle down for sleep but all Dinosaur can think about is finding the elusive “binkit”.  Little ones with a lovey of their own are sure to relate to Dinosaur’s search.

Books for Babies that Like to Move!

Little Lucy is 10 months old!  It is simply amazing to watch her grow and develop. In less than a months time Lucy has become a very active baby.  She crawls, pulls herself to standing and walks around (with the help of furniture and her little push wagon).  All of this busyness means that story time had to step up a bit and become much more interactive.  Luckily, there are many great books out there just for that purpose.  Little Lucy still loves touch and feel books, but now she also  likes to turn pages, lift flaps and move along with the story.  I have four interactive board books in my library stack this week and we have read them dozens of times already!

 

Book Review: Baby Bunny

I picked this book for Little Lucy anticipating the arrival of spring and easter.  The title, however, was a bit misleading, in my opinion.  While the book is not all about a baby bunny, there are still some fun, furry pages to feel!  Little hands will get to explore the velvety nose of a baby fawn, the spiked back of a little hedgehog and more.

Book Review: Have You Ever Tickled a Tiger?

Little Lucy and I are really enjoying this touch and feel book.  Each page features a different animal with some interesting textures to feel like the feathers of an ostrich and the whiskers of a walrus.  Text includes fun, repetitive, rhyming verses that babies and toddlers will enjoy hearing again and again.

Book Review: Baby’s Very First Touchy-Feely Animals Book

(Probably) the last of the touch and feel book that I will review (unless I come across something super spectacular).  This is Little Lucy’s very favorite book.  The illustrations are simple, bright and appealing.  I have noticed that books with too much detail, too many busy illustrations, are not as enticing to her.  There is an animal with a corresponding adjective and name to feel on every page and an abundance of “furry” ones (her favorite).  Additionally, there is a grid at the back of the book with the name, color and picture of each animal featured.

Book Review: Under the Sea

“Under the Sea” contains five different sea creatures for young children to explore.  Vibrant photographs accompanied by simple text and textured animals to feel make this a delightful book. Additionally, each page has an adjective in bold letters that describes what kind of texture children will feel, such as the wrinkly neck of a sea turtle or the rubbery skin of a dolphin.  Look for more titles in the Feels Real! series.

Another great board book in a series of touch and feel books.  Each page contains photographs and something to feel.  Little ones can count the spongy sea creatures and press to squeak the squishy toy turtle.

Book Review: Winter

This little board book is full of fun pictures that will introduce young children to a variety of winter vocabulary.  Each page is accompanied by a bold one word label identifying the picture.  While the cover identifies this book as a touch and feel, there are only a few pages with a distinct texture for babies to feel.  LIttle hands will love to explore the fuzzy bird, soft shirt and bumpy snowflake.  Too bad there isn’t something to feel on every page!
